WACO, Texas (KWTX) - On Friday, Baylor University dedicated the “Memorial to Enslaved Persons” on Founders Mall.
The memorial is broken up into three sections.
The outer ring honors people enslaved by Baylor’s earliest leaders.
The inner ring tells the story of slavery around the time of Baylor’s founding back in the 1800’s -- highlighting Waco, Independence, and the Brazos River between the two cities.
Finally, the Residence Garden is a peaceful space to come together.
The memorial offers new areas for gathering and reflection.
“During today’s challenging times, I am so proud of how Baylor has remained committed to telling our complete history. As difficult as some chapters have been, I know we are all looking forward to our promising future together.” Baylor University’s President
