A new season started for the Somerset Briar Jumpers Football team on Thursday night. Due to some incoming inclement weather, the Jumpers played a rare Thursday night game. The Jumpers hosted the first round of the KHSAA State tournament for the fourth year in a row, and despite some early struggles, ran away with a 49-21 victory against Washington County.

Sophomore Elyjah Keene returned the opening kickoff of the game for a touchdown, giving Washington County the early 7-0 edge. That lead was short-lived however, as Hughes managed to run the ball in from 60 yards out on the second Somerset play of their first drive, tying things up 7-7 after a Julian Carroll extra point.
