Following several setbacks due to Mother Nature, construction of the new bridge at Melville is back on track.

It comes after Maitland City Council and contractor Saunders Civilbuild recently completed detailed assessments and critical repair plans, which were required when the structure suffered significant damage during the May and August flood events.

From Monday 10 November, work will begin to reinstall the beams and form and construct the bridge deck, involving 88 tonnes of reinforced steel.

Once they’re in place, council can then confirm a clear timeframe for completion.

“It’s encouraging to see progress following a complex assessment and repair process,” council’s general manager Jeff Smith said.

“It has been detailed and methodical.
