The city of DeSoto has launched the Helping Hands of DeSoto: Community Relief Initiative to connect residents with vital food resources and community assistance.

The temporary assistance program is in response to rising concerns over food insecurity and recent changes to SNAP benefits.

The city is working alongside local nonprofits, churches, and regional partners to ensure DeSoto families have access to meals, pantry programs, and holiday food distributions throughout the season, according to a release.

The Community Relief Initiative will pause water utility service disconnections for eligible residents during the shutdown period and waive delinquent fees associated with late or non-payments directly caused by the shutdown.
