LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Due to a Federal Aviation Administration mandate, 4% of flights across 40 different airports were canceled on Friday.
The move is designed to take some of the pressure off already stretched air traffic controllers, who have not been paid since the government shut down more than a month ago.
In Louisville, some travelers on Friday morning, like Evonne Barlow, had a nerve-wracking wait before learning their flight status.
"I was sick to my stomach and wondering whether or not I was just going to cancel my flight," Barlow said. "Because I don't want to be stuck in D.C. I want to come back home to my family."
In total, 10 flights — five departures and five arrivals — were canceled on Friday, and according to FlightAware, nine more are set to be canceled on Saturday.
