David Ellerby has played the Last Post at the Woodstock Cenotaph on Remembrance Day for more than 15 years.

“It’s the least I can do for my part, for what they did,” he said of the men and women from the community who put their lives on the line for Canada.

“For me, Remembrance Day is every day, we can’t let it slide by,” said Ellerby, who began playing the trumpet in Grade 4. “There are fewer and fewer veterans every year, its part of our history.”

His wife’s uncle fought in the Battle of Ortona, one of the bloodiest battles involving Canadian troops in the Second World War as the Allies pushed through Italy.
