Ankeny volleyball player Miya Steinkamp and Southeast Polk football player Drew Thompson were voted the Des Moines Register's female and male metro-area Athlete of the Week winners for the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1.

Steinkamp won the female Athlete of the Week voting with 61% of the vote.

She ran the show for the No. 5 Ankeny volleyball team during its dominant 25-11, 25-20, 25-8 sweep over No. 14 Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the regional championship match on Oct. 28.

Steinkamp dished out 29 assists to help the Hawks earn a trip to the state tournament. She also recorded 10 digs and two aces.
