PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The city of Washington approved a project to change lightbulbs in the downtown area Thursday.
Officials accepted an investment of $23,600 to remove and dispose of existing High-Intensity Discharge lamps and install new LED lamps by the end of the month.
Cities officials said they hope the new lights will alleviate ongoing maintenance issues with current lights. They also hope the lights bring a fresh aesthetic to the downtown area, just in time for the holidays.
“Having the lighting look good over the decorations and for the square, for the community, and for the businesses is, I think, very important,” said Public Works Director Brian Rittenhouse.
