Miller time was short lived.
Newly erected street signs for Miller Avenue near the GO station in St. Catharines will be swapped out for the name Flourishing Way.
City council signed off on the street name change this week at the request of Ridley College and agreed to pay up to $2,000 for new signs and the related legal and administrative costs.
The private school, which gave land off Ridley Road to the city for a new access road to the GO station, chose Miller for the new street name in 2023 before the street existed in recognition of the school’s founder in 1889, Dr. John Miller.
But in a letter to city council on Oct. 29, David Carter, Ridley’s Chief Financial and Operating Officer, said Miller is honoured in various other ways on campus and the submission was “done in haste” by a f
