MT. MORRIS TWP., MI -- More than 20 years after gang members burned Westwood Manor Apartments, destroying part of the complex in a fire that caused the death of a mother and daughter, a contractor has started to tear down what remains.
The Genesee County Land Bank Authority’s massive demolition project started on Thursday, Nov. 6, a job that isn’t expected to be completed until next year.
Michael Freeman, executive director of the Land Bank, said the demolition of the 12 structures on the Clio Road property should provide a fresh start for another developer and said there have already been discussions with potential buyers.
