Two people were declared dead as well as one dog at the scene of a residential fire early Friday afternoon, the Amarillo Fire Department reported.

Amarillo firefigther crews arrived around 11:28 a.m. Nov. 7 to the house, located in the 2000 block of Northwest 17th, to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the building. Crews began their attack on the fire and made entry to the house. They found two people inside the house who had died.

A second alarm was called due to the fire spreading to a second building. "There was some extension to a second structure but that damage was limited to the exterior," AFD said.

The Fire Marshal's Office also arrived to investigate the cause of the fire at the scene, which remains active.
