CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Greater Cleveland Food Bank distributed a record 320,000 pounds of food in a single day as demand surges during the government shutdown that has suspended SNAP benefits for more than a month.
The distribution represents nearly three times the food bank’s daily average as workers loaded pallets onto trucks to meet the overwhelming needs of families struggling without federal food assistance.

Karen Pozna, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank’s director of communications, said the organization is preparing to distribute 7 million pounds of food in November, up from its typical 5 million pounds.
