While Aicha Smith-Belghaba grieves, as her grandmother enters palliative care, she says she is heartbroken but also grateful.

She pays her respects and supports her family through this hard time as she also prepares an auction for the people of Gaza.

“That’s a privilege people in Gaza often don’t have. Too many can’t hold funerals, can’t bury loved ones in peace. I keep thinking, ‘even in our pain here, we still have each other.’” she told CBC Hamilton in a written statement.

Smith-Belghaba is Mohawk and Algerian and lives in Six Nations of the Grand River. She worked with Brantford4Palestine to organize an auction where all proceeds are going to help feed people in Gaza.
