GALVESTON, Texas — A Houston-area school district is at the center of a lawsuit filed by the state, according to Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Paxton said a lawsuit was filed against the Galveston Independent School District for refusing to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
Senate Bill 10 passed through the Texas Legislature in May and was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott in June. The law went into effect in September and requires all public schools to show a specific version of the Ten Commandments that's at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall.
