The state of Maryland is suing the Trump administration over plans to change an already-approved relocation of the FBI's headquarters.

In July 2025, the FBI announced plans to put the kibosh on a years-in-the-making process of moving the bureau's main building out of Washington, D.C. , and into either nearby Maryland or Virginia. Instead, the nation's top law enforcement agency would remain in the federal district — taking up residence at the Ronald Reagan Building.

That process began in 2014, by way of a congressionally-delineated effort helmed by the General Services Administration (GSA).
