DOUGLAS COUNTY — When each of her grandsons turned 4, Dana Lauer of Alexandria started bringing them with her to ring the bell for the Douglas County Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign. Now, Flynn, 8, and his brother, Oden, 6, look forward to it every year, their grandma said.

“It is great one-on-one time with them talking about families who need assistance to buy food or essential items,” said Lauer. “I feel it's a great way for me to model volunteering and helping others. And, it is a wonderful holiday tradition and a great way to share memories.”

Lauer and her grandsons will once again be ringing the Salvation Army bell this year and are counting down the days.
