LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - NTSB drone video released Friday showed the scorched and scarred path where UPS flight 2976 came to a fiery end.

Through the eyes of an experienced pilot, it also revealed an impossible scenario.

“When you hit something, all bets are off,” retired UPS pilot Neville Barrett said. “You’re not flying an airplane anymore, you’re just in a missile.”

Barrett is a former Air Force pilot who flew for UPS for 26 years, 15 of those years piloting the MD-11.

He speculated that as the left engine fell off, the tail engine could have been compromised by debris.

And, he speculated, it could have happened at a point on the runway when momentum demanded that the aircraft take off.
