CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is preparing for Monday’s predicted first snowfall of the winter season as crews brace for challenging conditions.
Brent Kovacs with ODOT said crews are ready, but face limitations due to the expected weather pattern.
“We expect this to be a rain-to-snow event, so we are going to be unable to pretreat because the rain will just wash away any salt or any brine that is on the road already,” Kovacs said.
ODOT anticipates warmer pavement temperatures will help prevent snow from sticking to roadways initially.
“What that means is any snow that hits the road it’s going to melt. But if we get a lot of snow quickly it’s going to take a while for it to melt. We are going to be in full force, plowing and salting,” Kovacs said.
