MAINE, USA — Governor Janet Mills has directed the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to issue full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this month, following federal court rulings and new guidance requiring the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to release funds during the federal shutdown.

"Withholding SNAP contingency funding was a wrong and callous decision that should not have needed a court order to reverse," Mills said in a Friday news release. "I have directed DHHS to issue full November benefits to ensure thousands of Maine people don't go hungry."
