The Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a person down call on the 100 block of Madison Avenue, at approximately 8:16 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, officers located and identified Antonio Jewell, a 22-year-old male, of Winterville, GA, on the sidewalk.

Emergency Medical Services and Athens-Clarke County Fire Department attempted lifesaving efforts, but Jewell later passed away at the scene. The ACCPD did not identify the possible cause of death.

Jewell was a student-athlete and a graduate from Clarke Central Highschool, class of 2022. The ACCPD is investigating the incident surrounding Jewell’s death.
