PALESTINE, Texas (KLTV) - Palestine police arrested a Tyler man Friday after an officer reportedly had to fire their gun at him.

According to the Palestine Police Department, around 9:34 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Crest Drive for a suspicious person, later identified as Thomas Edward Cade, 48 of Tyler.

The caller, who was home with a small child, explained Cade had torn down her fence and was trying to hang himself with a garden hose in her backyard, the police department said.

The police department said once officers arrived on scene they found that Cade had torn electrical lines out of the side of the home and that he had ducked down behind a fence and brush.

The press release said that Cade then stood up and was ordered multiple times to show his hands.
