KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A strong cold front will open the doors for bitterly cold air to move into the Southeast Sunday night and temperatures across East Tennessee are expected to take a sharp drop by Monday.

A deep trough of low pressure and unseasonably cold air could keep high temperatures 20 to 25 degrees below average early next week.

Lows Sunday night are expected to fall into the upper 20s. Highs are expected to stay in the middle to upper 30s on Monday with wind chills in the teens and 20s all day.

The coldest temperatures will be Monday night when lows will fall into the 20s across our entire viewing area, with a widespread hard freeze expected.
