WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — As the nationwide nursing shortage continues to strain hospitals, future nurses from Wilkes University are getting early hands-on experience here at the Wilkes-Barre Senior Center.

Taking their skills from the classroom straight into the community, students set up a small health fair—checking blood pressure, sharing nutrition tips, and teaching seniors how to care for their fragile skin. Wilkes University Accelerated Nursing Program student, Jasmine Cruz, says she joined the field because of her love of caring for others.
