A driver in a stolen ambulance led police on a wild pursuit spanning several miles on Chicago's West Side before being swarmed by law enforcement, video showed.

While it wasn't immediately clear what occurred prior, the pursuit began before 4 p.m. at West Jackson Boulevard and South Central Avenue in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. Mike Lorber in NBC Chicago's Sky 5 helicopter reported the ambulance was stolen from Loretto Hospital near South Central Avenue and West Harrison Street.

Video captured by Sky 5 showed Chicago police pursuing the ambulance as it erratically wound through neighborhoods, evaded officers and nearly crashed into several vehicles.
