Springfield Township officials and a mining company are tapping the brakes on plans for a gravel pit that has drawn pushback from residents — a move they believe will provide time to assess the potential impact of the project.
The Levy Co. in February submitted its application for the pit, proposed on a 482.6-acre plot of land at the southwest corner of Ormond Road and French Lane. The pit is estimated to yield 60,000-665,000 cubic yards of sand annually, according to the company’s application.
Levy owns the land, which is currently used to grow corn.
Township Supervisor Ric Davis said residents showed up to public meetings in force after he posted Levy’s project application to the township website when it was submitted in May. The township announced Aug.
