The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families says that it is preparing to issue full SNAP benefits for November this coming weekend, in the wake of a Friday court ruling.
SNAP, which is short for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides food aid to 440,000 Minnesotans and 42 million Americans. The program stopped issuing benefits this month due to the ongoing government shutdown , which is now the longest in U.S. history .
"As the longest shutdown in U.S. history concludes its sixth week, we are incredibly grateful Minnesotans will soon have access to their food benefits thanks to important legal system updates," DCYF Commissioner Tikki Brown said .
