FRANKLIN, N.H. —

The Franklin School District is dealing with a significant budget deficit.

At a City Council meeting earlier this week, school board members discussed an issue with the district's budget.

The board hopes to draw money from its fund balance to cover the costs, which amount to more than $500,000.

Other school districts in the Granite State, such as Concord and Rochester, have faced similar funding issues this year.

The district is facing more than a $293,000 shortfall in state adequacy aid, as well as an additional $288,000 assessment from its health insurance provider.
