Airlines across the United States are canceling hundreds of flights after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered unprecedented air traffic reductions to relieve pressure on air traffic controllers working without pay during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

The FAA said the reductions impacting all commercial airlines are starting at 4% of flights at the busiest airports and will ramp up to 10% a week from Friday.
