CANTON, New York (WWNY) - The St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services has launched a countywide food drive through November 17 to support residents facing food insecurity during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The county is doing this regardless of whether SNAP benefits are restored.
Due to the shutdown, many households that rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are experiencing delays in receiving their benefits.
Donations may be dropped off at DSS offices at:
Canton: 6 Judson St.
Ogdensburg: 100 Ford St.
Gouverneur: 99 West Main St.
Massena: 21 Harrowgate Commons
Nonperishable food items, baby formula, canned goods, shelf-stable proteins, and other essential items are especially needed.
