JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — An Army veteran who now serves Johnson City as an EMT was selected to receive a free full dental arch restoration, which will give him a brand new smile.

Each year, Dr. Matthew Sherban with the Regional Center for Dental Implants and Oral Surgery provides a local veteran with life-changing dental care through the "Smiles for Veterans" program.

U.S. Army veteran Jeff Weems learned on Friday that he had been chosen to receive the dental surgery, valued at $50,000.

Weems served in the Army from 1988 to 1992. He was in Germany when the Berlin Wall was torn down. After a short time back home in 1990, he was back overseas serving in Operation Desert Storm.

Sherban told News Channel 11 that providing dental care to veterans holds a special place in his heart.
