NEW YORK —
If you’ve been in the proximity of anyone under the age of 18, you’ve probably heard them unabashedly declare the words “6-7.”
The term, which started off as a meme from the song "Doot Doot (6 7)" by Skrilla, has grown wildly. In fact, it even became Dictionary.com ’s 2025 Word of the Year.
While “6-7” is “ impossible to define ,” it’s been on the rise in popularity since this summer. It beat out other words on their shortlist such as “aura farming" (meaning to cultivate one’s personality), “agentic” and “tariff.”
This marks the second year in a row that Dictionary.com has picked a meme as their champion. Last year, they chose “demure,” a reference to a viral TikTok posted by creator Jools Lebron in August 2024.
