BUFFALO, N.Y. — Tensions between the Seneca Nation and New York State continue to rise as negotiations over a new gaming compact remain at a standstill.

Seneca Nation President J.C. Seneca says progress has been slow and is calling for extended, in-person meetings with Gov. Kathy Hochul to move discussions forward.

Seneca said the talks so far have not amounted to meaningful negotiation.

"We've had some meetings. They're calling them negotiations, but it really hasn't gotten to a point of negotiation in my view," he said.

He added that he has proposed multi-day sessions to work through the unresolved issues.

"I think we really need to get to the table for a couple days in a row, three days. I even proposed a week, a week at a time," he said.
