SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)-- It has been just over a week since Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica, and a local Jamaican restaurant is doing all they can to help those who were left devastated.

Owner of Jamaican Taste restaurant and food truck Andre Neil and his wife called Jamaica home. He learned that their home in Saint James, Jamaica was destroyed due to the hurricane.

In the hours after the storm hit, Neil said his biggest worry was if his parents, who live on the island, were okay.

"I only heard from my mom and dad yesterday," Neil said. "So, you can just imagine how heart wrenching it was for us as a family here. You know, not hearing from them, not knowing that my mom or dad is alive, and other family members too."

He said many people in the area he is from have been displaced due to roof
