SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — Some public schools in Sarasota County have been seeing a drop in student enrollment.
It’s something that the district has been trying to change for some time.
On Friday, the school board unanimously approved plans to help repurpose some school facilities to use the underutilized space. Those involve some elementary schools becoming K-8, adding programs like magnet and STEM, opening district offices on school campuses, and leasing space for childcare and youth programs that could also generate revenue.
Superintendent Terry Connor explained when the approved changes will start.
“We've already started," Connor said. "At this point, we've already started looking at how to design the curriculum, how we are going to reconfigure some of our schools."
