LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A citywide food drive launched this week by Lexington city agencies has generated strong community support amid ongoing uncertainty about federal food assistance programs.

The Big Give Food Drive began Monday with blue donation barrels placed at more than two dozen locations across the city, including fire stations, law enforcement offices, and other city buildings. God’s Pantry Food Bank and Lexington’s Family Care Center are receiving the donations.

CEO Michael Halligan said the community response has been significant.

“We are humbled by the outpouring of support and the ability that that support allows us and many, many others to provide a hand up for someone who can’t put food on the table tonight,” Halligan said. “It’s making a difference.”
