The Porterville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to introduce an ordinance adopting the 2025 California Fire Code, a state-required update that will take effect January 1, 2026. The action includes a series of local amendments intended to streamline procedures and improve public safety while maintaining consistency with state standards.
Fire Marshal Clay Dignam delivered the staff report, explaining the state updates fire codes every three years to reflect new building materials, construction practices, and fire prevention standards. Local jurisdictions are required to adopt the code but may incorporate amendments to address local conditions.
A small correction was made during the public hearing to fix a reference number in the code text. No other public comments were submitted.
