Two weeks ago, Brendon Ip moved from a downtown Vancouver condo to another highrise a few blocks away and nabbed a one-bedroom unit that’s 25 per cent larger for 20 per cent less.
Ip, a physiotherapist, noticed rent coming down “really aggressively” and decided to make a move. The search was easy, he said, with good inventory and attractive rents.
“It’s come down a lot. There wasn’t any good reason not to move aside from the hassle of moving.”
His new rent is $2,200 a month, $575 a month less than his previous place. The new landlord also gifted him a free month, which seemed to be a fairly common practice for downtown units he’s looked at, Ip said.
