After nearly 38 and a half years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi announced she would not seek reelection in 2026.

When she leaves office in 2027, Pelosi will have served just under 40 years in all.

The Democrat representing California first took office in June of 1987. With multiple terms as either the speaker or Democratic leader of the House, she’s had a notable career in the role.
