RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man accused of injuring a Wake County deputy with his car over the summer was arrested Friday, a warrant shows.
According the Wake County Sheriff's Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Aug. 5 on 58-year-old Ronald Smith of Raleigh. The deputy instructed Smith to step out of his vehicle and attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants, but Smith drove off.
While driving off, according to a warrant filed by the sheriff's office, Smith allegedly struck the deputy with his vehicle and ran over the deputy's foot. The deputy suffered minor injures, the sheriff's department said.
The warrant shows Smith is charged with the felony offenses of assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer and assault with physical injury of a law enforcement officer. He
