Elle Green-Kelly, a Salem resident who relies on federal help to feed her family, was incredulous when she first heard Thursday night that SNAP benefits were being provided in full.

That disbelief quickly turned into cautious relief when Green-Kelly confirmed with friends that their benefit cards were also recharged for the month of November. She and her family quickly ordered groceries from Fred Meyer to get ahead of any rush at local grocery stores, Green-Kelly told Salem Reporter.

The 750,000 recipients of federal help to cover part of a month’s grocery costs got their benefits because of overnight work by state officials. They acted after a federal judge ordered the Trump administration to pay the benefits – an order that Trump appealed on Friday .
