A paramedic who was inside an ambulance when it was stolen outside a Chicago hospital managed to escape before a dramatic pursuit unfolded and wound through multiple neighborhoods on Friday.
The series of events began at around 4 p.m., when a Cicero Fire Department ambulance crew transported a patient to Loretto Hospital, a town spokesman said. One paramedic was inside the ambulance as a patient being escorted from the hospital by security ran to the driver's side door, got inside and drove away.
The paramedic jumped out approximately two blocks away, the spokesman said.
A second paramedic, who was standing by the back door of the ambulance, quickly called 911, allowing Chicago police to respond quickly.
