NEW ORLEANS — Uncertainty continues to weigh on Louisiana SNAP recipients as many still receive only a portion of their monthly food assistance benefits, despite a federal order requiring full funding of the program.
On Friday, hundreds lined up along Franklin Avenue in St. Roch — not because of an accident, but for a community outreach event hosted by Rock of Ages Baptist Church. The giveaway included 70,000 pounds of food and $40,000 in gas cards to help SNAP recipients and federal workers affected by the ongoing funding delay.
Charles Ivory, one of many struggling residents, said he’s grateful for the help but still feels the pinch.
“I normally get $183 a month,” Ivory said. “It’s a little less than half, but at least it’s something.”
