The city of Santa Fe's participation in a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's threats to withhold funding from immigrant-friendly cities allowed it to strike language from a Federal Aviation Administration grant requiring it to cooperate with immigration authorities.

City Attorney Erin McSherry said in a recent interview that's one of the developments in the city's two ongoing legal challenges of the federal government, which could include a third lawsuit against the U.S. departments of Housing and Urban Development, Transportation and Health and Human Services.

Participation in the lawsuits have "been really helpful" in allowing the city to fight grant conditions it believes are unlawful, McSherry said Tuesday.
