Boulder’s chief of police is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a former executive of the embattled Boulder County branch of the NAACP.

Filed last month in U.S. District Court, Stephen Redfearn’s motion says that Darren O’Connor’s claims that he was retaliated against for criticizing Redfearn during the city’s public feud with the NAACP chapter over the past couple of years are subject to dismissal under Colorado’s anti-SLAPP statute.

SLAPP refers to Strategic Laws Against Public Participation, which essentially seeks to prevent litigation meant to stifle or punish people for exercising their First Amendment rights.
