CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Knights of Columbus donated $7,000 and winter coats to Lorraine's Soup Kitchen and Pantry in Chicopee, responding to increased demand due to SNAP benefit cuts.
Lorraine's Soup Kitchen and Pantry has been serving upwards of 80 people a day, as families and the elderly face challenges in affording groceries and meals. The donation from the Knights of Columbus aims to alleviate some of these pressures.
"This $7,000 is a godsend," said Donna Marratta, the board president of Lorraine's Soup Kitchen and Pantry.
"People are in need... and that's what we're here for... to help people as much as we can," said Ron Grenier, a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 4044.
With the cuts to SNAP benefits, Lorraine's has seen a significant increase in the number
