KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Walmart partnered with the Kinston Fire Department to raise donations for its Thanksgiving food drive amid delayed SNAP payments.

As the holiday season approaches, some families may need assistance due to food benefit cuts caused by the ongoing shutdown.

People stopped by today to drop off canned goods and items for holiday meals.

“It makes me feel great, and I know everyone else feels great when we get an opportunity to help our community,” said Walmart team leader Paris Carter. “With so much going on in the country, we are trying to do our part.”

Donations will be distributed across food banks in the area.
