AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The City of Canyon has approved the 4th Street Ground Storage Tank Reconstruction Project, a nearly $4 million infrastructure upgrade that has been in planning for almost 15 years.
The project will update and replace three existing underground storage tanks that the city says are beyond repair. The tanks are more than 70 years old and bordering on non-compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Construction details
The project includes construction of a million-gallon concrete tank, replacement and installation of additional piping, control valves and other equipment. The tanks directly impact well water for the community.
Initial design of the project began in 2011 but was shelved due to funding constraints.
