“Nobody felt like they really knew a lot about these animals, where they came from, or what they may or may not have,” said Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson.

According to incident reports from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the truck told officers the monkeys had been picked up from Tulane University and were on the way to Maryland. The driver also told officers the monkeys were aggressive and might carry hepatitis-C, herpes, and COVID.
