OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Millions of children across the U.S. are at risk of going hungry with SNAP benefits in limbo and many workers furloughed during the government shutdown.

Local nonprofit Completely KIDS is ramping up efforts to support families through its emergency food pantry and weekend backpack program , which provides food for children when they’re away from school.

“Stuff comes off that shelf almost as quickly as it goes on it,” said Carla Rizzo, Completely KIDS CEO.

The organization faces familiar challenges as donation locations around the metro and country work to meet increased demand from families struggling to put food on the table.
