BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. — A Georgia man has been arrested after police say he robbed a gas station and assaulted officers during an encounter that ended with a struggle over a weapon.
According to the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department, 35-year-old Alfred Anthony Woods, Jr. was arrested November 7 after being released from the hospital.
Investigators say the incident began around 10:45 p.m. on November 4, 2025, when officers were dispatched to the Enmarket gas station on West Columbia Avenue for reports of a robbery.
Police say the first responding officer saw a man actively taking money from the register. When the officer confronted him, police say a physical altercation began.
